Frankie issue 49

Oh the places you'll go!

This issue includes a few places around the world.
it says, '..because if you can make the most of whatever situation you're in, it's almost going to be OK.'

And as always, this issue is full of good reads! I can't help but chuckle while reading pages of funny articles by talented wordsmith such as Eleanor Robertson, Pui Pui Tam, just to name a few.

You should get your hands on this issue straightaway if you haven't done so. =)

Calendar 2013 is available for pre-order now!

One tiny horse
Meet UK Artist & Photographer Cassia Beck.

I have been following Cassia Beck's photostream at Flickr for some times now. There is something whimsical and dreamy about her photos. So nice to read about her in Frankie!

toyhorsetravels.blogspot.com.au for more of her project.

This inspires me to start a mini project too for my upcoming travels. =)

Looking forward to the next Big Issue 50!

Oh Comely & LWLies

keep your curiosity sacred

It is a magazine that makes people smile, full of quiet moments and stories. Read it with a cup of tea or a toddy.
It inspires people to be creative, talk to their neighbours and explore new things. There are adventures that capture the feeling of being free, stories from people with tales to tell, recipes to warm your heart, and crafty things to make. All these things, wrapped up in beautiful words, illustration and photography.
oh comely is published six times a year, available in over a thousand nice places in the UK as well as internationally.

Inside issue 9

A week ago, i came home to a parcel all the way from London! Inside were 2 awesome magazines and one of them was called 'Oh comely' (pictures above). These lovely magazines were from a very kind friend, Anthony as a thank you gift.

Oh comely is very much like Frankie! It features many interesting, inspiring & witty articles. One that i read was a documentary film about the woman whose body lay undiscovered for three years. Another interesting article was on dead pets and what the writers did with them. One of them put her dead goldfish in the freezer and talked about how she couldn't bear to flush it down the toilet.

I read a few pages here and there, while on the bus to work and sometimes when it's quiet at work. I even tried out the guinness recipe for one of my breakfast last week. My friend commented that wasn't it too early for stout...haha.

The other magazine was called 'Little White Lies'.

LWLies is a bi-monthly, independent movie magazine that features cutting edge writing, illustration and photography to get under the skin of cinema.
Bold, beautiful and unique, LWLies is a magazine on a mission – to reshape the
debate across the movie landscape.
- LWLies (about)

I like the bold graphic and colorful pages. It includes interviews with movie directors and creative people behind all the motion pictures etc. So cool!!

Ahoy!
Once again, a big thanks to Anthony for these awesome magazines!

2 of them were given to me as gifts, and i bought the one with apples for myself
just because it's cute. GST excluded too, at Changi airport.

Spotted this book in kikki.K. A collection of inspirational quotes inside. Adore it.

Pixar family movie day!

saw this in VF while flipping through the zine at library today. Image from here.
This picture is perfectly lovely with all my favourite characters. Imagining myself sitting among these awesome characters. Maybe next to Woody, or Carl Fredrickson or the talking dog in Up. hehe.

"...a further nine years would pass before Pixar’s first full-length feature, Toy Story, and only 10 more films have followed to date—the studio has set the gold standard not just for animation but for cinema, period. Up (2009) featured a wordless five-minute interlude that captured the joy of new love, the ups and downs of a working marriage, and the bitter pill of widowhood; it was a watershed: a “Believe us now?” riposte to anyone who doesn’t think computers or animators are capable of work that moves the heart."  - VF
Little Ratatouille is so cute! i want to pet it! =)

Read: how to steal like an artist

warning:
on this post...all i do is reposting what someone smart like Austin Kleon who posted this on his blog.

This morning i was scrolling down Twitter and saw Lisa Congdon tweeted about a link to this interesting article (<--click to read) by Austin Kleon. You should really read it too. Some good points to note in your little idea/inspiration journal book.

All credits to Austin Kleon

"1. Steal like an artist.

Every artist gets asked the question, “Where do you get your ideas?”
The honest artist answers, “I steal them.”

You’re ready. Start making stuff.
You might be scared. That’s natural.
There’s this very real thing that runs rampant in educated people. It’s called imposter syndrome. The clinical definition is a “psychological phenomenon in which people are unable to internalize their accomplishments.” It means that you feel like a phony, like you’re just winging it, that you really don’t have any idea what you’re doing.
Guess what?
None of us do. I had no idea what I was doing when I started blacking out newspaper columns. All I knew was that it felt good. It didn’t feel like work. It felt like play.
Ask any real artist, and they’ll tell you the truth: they don’t know where the good stuff comes from. They just show up to do their thing. Every day.
- this is my favourite piece of advice from Austin.

Taking note...

On music playlist today: When I see you smile
Yesterday i heard this classic song by Mr.Big (band) called 'When i see you smile' played on my favourite radio station, Sonshine fm 98.5 and have this song stuck on replay today...even as i'm typing now.
I thought about my sis and her newborn baby girl when i heard this song. I told her about it. hehe.
Every now and then, it's nice to hear something from the past. Classics rock!
